  STUDIO A - RECORDING / MIXING GALLERY

  Studio A

Studio A at Phase One was built by renowned studio designer George Augsperger in 1974. It is the quintessential recording environment, from a vintage 42 input Neve console in the control room to its acoustically pleasing 1,500 square foot recording area, everything about this room shouts "classic".

The 14' foot Neve console is the control room's centerpiece and is the result of joining two separate Neves together. Thus it features 18 1073, and 24 1084 modules, all in good working order. There are Neve compressors and filters on board as well.

ProTools HD 10, 24/32 channels of class A Burl conversion, as well as Studer 2" analog tape recorders (24 or 16 track) are part of the room. Classic and modern outboard gear fills four bays in the producers desk allowing for individual preference and a wide degree of tonal variation.

A wide array of microphones are available (70 in all) and if we don't have the mic you need, we can usually rent it.

A Hammond B3 organ and Leslie 122 cabinet, a Yamaha C7 Disclavier piano, and a variety of guitar amps are always available and complimentary. A Fender Precision bass from the 1970's adds that distinct sound when necessary.

There is seating for eleven inside the control room. Versatile SOTA mains monitoring and several sets of nearfields speakers to listen to, sync to picture capability, a large adjoining private lounge and wired or wireless internet connectivity make Studio A an easy place to spend the better part of a day.

Legendary artists such as Sting, Herbie Hancock, Black Eyed Peas, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Harry Chapin, Rush, Triumph, Tom Cochrane, BTO, Anne Murray, Air Supply, Saga, Gordie Johnson, Tragically Hip, Jann Arden, Enrique Iglesias, Barenaked Ladies, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Chantal Kreviazuk are some of the many who have cut tracks in Studio A at Phase One. Many Toronto artists have begun their career by recording their first demo or album in Studio A.
